The Tony Fernandez 5th Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament

[AUGUST 2008] Our 5th Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament was held for the first time at the prestigious Angus Glen Golf Club (Markham, Ontario, Canada) on Thursday 21st August, 2008. With the backing of our many supporters and volunteers our golf tournament was once again successfully attended with a full compliment of Golfers. Special thanks to our Corporate Sponsors, Leland Industries and the Toronto Blue Jays whose support has been critical to our success. We also wish thank all our Celebrities, Hole Sponsors, Supporters, Golfers & Volunteers for making our 5th anniversary, a very special event. Despite increased expenses , we managed to keep our cost per Golfer to $225 including Lunch, Dinner and gifts. We also maintained our support for RIOT youth group (Brampton) and TF Foundation in the Dominican Republic, although to a lesser extent than previous years.

This was the first year without celebrity Cito Gaston who assumed the job as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays and he was surely missed. However, his lovely wife Lynda kept her record intact by attending and winning a prize.

Celebrities this year included regulars, Jesse Barfield & Juan Guzman (ex-Jays), Robin Cole (ex- Pittsburg Steelers), Less Brown & Willie Bethea (ex-Hamilton Ticats), Herbie Kuhn (voice-man Toronto Raptors) and an impromptu appearance by Damon Allen (ex-Argonaut). Also in attendance this year were Tony’s wife Clara and son Abraham along with Anna Guzman, wife of Juan Guzman.

Because of your feedback, we shall be holding our 6th Celebrity Golf Tournament at Angus Glen on 20th August, 2009 so please reserve that date and we look forward to seeing you. The Foundation will also be shifting its focus in Canada with the continued support of RIOT youth group and a (5) year commitment to YMCA of $40,000 per year to build a multi-purpose gym - “Tony Fernandez Foundation Centre of Hope”. The “Jays Care Foundation” will match our donation to the YMCA. More information and activity updates to follow.
