Tony Fernandez Hosts Baseball Clinic NYC 2008[AUGUST 2008] On Saturday, August 9, 2008 The Tony Fernandez Foundation and all-star ex- Major League Baseball Player Tony Fernandez, hosted a baseball clinic at Hinton Park Baseball Fields in Corona. On a beautiful sunny day, more than 150 kids from the Corona and East Elmhurst community participated in the clinic making it a definite success. The kids and local coaches were excited to learn proper techniques as well as sharing fun time with While the children were warming up, Tony Fernandez demonstrated to the coaches hitting techniques including batting stance to proper breathing. "All about the clinic was constructive," said Asopec Little League president, Mr. Paladino. He added, "It meant a lot for me and my coaching staff to come to the field confident in their ability to teach the appropriate skills to the kids.” Parents commented ”Tony was friendly and patient and took the time to work with the children on their hitting, fielding and throwing fundamentals.” Tony admired the children’s determination. “I noticed they were listening and very alert," he said. At the end of the drills, Tony spoke to the children about having a strong determination for baseball as well for school. ”Think and act in a positive way and good things will happen,” he suggested. “Tony worked and trained with passion,” NYC Commissioner Guillermo Linares said. “Our city is proud to have him.” At the conclusion of the clinic, the children enjoyed a free, healthy lunch supplied by MBJ cafeteria. The children also received NY Mets t-shirts, NY Mets player’s baseball cards and game tickets, all courtesy of the New York Mets. The Tony Fernandez Foundation looks forward to the summer 2009 New York City Baseball Clinic. Tony’s mission through the Foundation is to work with underprivileged and trouble children by nurturing and developing them through counseling, education, training, physical and spiritual activities.
